Thus, I recommend you avoid the unit to avoid potentially wasting as much time with it as I have. I have not been able to get this thing to work from multiple computers and with multiple printers. The unit claims it sees my printer, claims it has received a print request, and then it doesn't print, yet printing occurs when I connect the printers directly to the computers.
Too bad it doesn't support two USB printers in the same sized unit. I suggest "pinging" the default address before you try to install the unit to make sure it's free. Excellent print server. Installation was a bit of a pain because the default address conflicted with something else on my network and I had to connect to it off the network using a spare hub to reset the address.
But the PDF problem persists. I thought that installing the Microsoft fix had reset the print spooler to default settings, but then I saw I was still having problem printing to PDF. But the printer is not unusual or exotic. I can't urge you strongly enough to avoid this product. Indeed, it says that the "TE100-P1U transforms any stand-alone USB printer into a shared network printer." If there are compatibility issues with some printers, one would think that it would be just obvious that Trendnet should post a list of printers that are and aren't compatible in a prominent place on the net. Wow.
In order to reset the spooler subsystem, I had to download and install a fix from Microsoft, which seems to have brought things back to normal.I called Trendnet tech support, who were helpful and polite, and who said that my printer was not compatible with the print server. So I reran the Microsoft fix with the option to completely wipe my printer drivers, and reinstalled. Definitely a product to avoid.Installation went fine under XP until I tried to print. But they haven't.Fortunately the store took the thing back with no hassle.UPDATE -- some days later. What a time waster. Not only did nothing print, but I started to get "Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close" crash messages.
It's an HP LaserJet 1020.The problem is that the product doesn't give any indication that it might not work with some printers.
No tech support to speak of, and the manual is pure garbage. I couldn't even get it to recognize the printer via USB cable. Returning tomorrow to try a real brand.DO NOT BUY THIS P.O.S. I cannot begin to tell you how poor the product support is for this piece of junk. It will NOT work with an OfficeJet of any kind - forget even trying to set up the printer as a multi-function device.
This nic card is used on a Mac using Leopard operating system and is listed as a compatible card.It was suggested I email tech support with my problem if I wanted an expidited answer to my problem. So I did just that, wrote an email explaining exactly what I was experiencing.I got an expidited answer indicating their product doesn't support Mac.Their tech support didn't even attempt to solve my problem.I will be returning both TrendNet PCITXR Cards.Their support is amongst the worst I have experienced.MB He indicated it would be two days before a high level tech support could get back to me. I contacted tech support with an issue involving transferring a 4.37gb file. The file crashes at 2.40gb. The person handlng the call couldn't help me.
